10 REASONS TO PURCHASE TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE

There are infinite circumstances that could cause you to cancel your trip, return home early or force you to seek emergency medical treatment while traveling.

Due to the wide range of circumstnces, travel insurance is required for all Black Realities Adventures. To demonstrate the importance of purchasing travel insurance, and emergency travel services, here are some common scenarios:

1. Flight plans don’t always go as planned. It’s 10am and your connecting flight from London to Accra is cancelled due to severe weather and the next available seat isn’t until the following evening. Travel insurance can help cover your hotel, meals, and new travel arrangements so your trip stays on track.

2. Bags take detours too. You land in Ghana, but your luggage doesn’t. If it's lost, who will help you find it? If it's delayed, who will reimburse you for covered necessities? If it's stolen, who will reimburse you for its contents? Insurance helps cover essentials while your bags catch up or reimburses you if they don’t.

3. Your passport decides to take a vacation of its own.  You realize your wallet and passport were left in a taxi. Where do you turn for assistance in obtaining emergency cash, and how will you get your passport replaced? Insurance can connect you to local support to replace your documents and access emergency funds.

4. Health doesn’t wait for perfect timing. You wake up feeling seriously ill in Accra and need medical care. Who is going to assist you with finding a doctor? Or arranging transportation to the hospital or emergency transportation back home? Travel insurance helps you find quality treatment and covers eligible expenses, including medical transport, that your domestic plan won’t.

5. Family emergencies don’t respect flight schedules. Just before your departure, a close family member back home becomes critically ill. What happens to your non-refundable deposits or pre-payments? Insurance can reimburse your non-refundable deposits so you can focus on what matters most.

6. Travel interruptions happen. You’re midway through your trip when a sudden airline strike or weather event delays your return home. Travel insurance helps with hotel costs for an extended stay in Accra, meal expenses, and rebooking assistance when service resumes.

7. You need to cancel without losing your investment. Sometimes life changes unexpectedly, a new job, surgery, or family obligation, and you must cancel your trip. Who will pay for your non-refundable expenses? Insurance can help recover prepaid, non-refundable costs.

8. The unexpected can happen abroad. You sprain your ankle while exploring and need a doctor. Who can assist you in finding a physician? Your policy can connect you to local care and cover your medical costs.

9. The unforseen. A huge storm hits the city of Accra and you are forced to evacuate due to a flood which has made your hotel uninhabitable. Who can assist you in being evacuated? Who will reimburse you for your lost vacation investment?

10. Peace of mind is worth it. Whether it’s a lost bag, a delayed flight, or an unexpected illness, travel insurance gives you confidence that you’re covered when the unpredictable happens.

✨ Every Black Realities Adventures traveler is required to have active travel insurance before departure. We recommend obtaining coverage that includes trip cancellation, medical care, and evacuation services. You can plan every detail of your trip, but life has a way of adding its own surprises. Travel insurance helps you move through the unexpected confidently, calmly, and while protecting your investment. It’s better to have the insurance and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
