Please reach us at info@blkrealities.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
For us, Ghana isn’t just a trip destination, it’s a return.
Ghana is where past and future meet in real time. It’s where the stories of our ancestors and the aspirations of their descendants live side by side in a unique and effortless blend of traditional culture and modern life. Where the value of human connection is inherent and innovation moves at a pace dictated by heritage.
In Ghana, you might stand where independence was declared, then share a drink with a fashion designer whose work has walked the Paris runway. You’ll walk through markets alive with centuries-old traditions and then stumble upon a chef reimagining ancestral recipes at the latest hotspot. Ghana is where legacy meets the embrace of what’s new, including you. It’s where community is felt in every greeting, creativity bursts from every corner, and where you can’t help but feel a quiet sense of home from the warmth of people who greet you like they’ve been waiting for you all along.
For travelers from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., Ghana offers something that can’t be bought or bottled: a truth-telling mirror. The kind of mirror that emanates reflections that stirs something in you. The kind that invites meditation, laughter, awe and yes, sometimes, tears. For first-time travelers to the continent, Ghana offers an access point that meets you where you are whether you’re coming to reconnect with roots, reset your spirit, or simply experience joy on your own terms..
For many, it’s a return to a feeling, not a place. For others, it’s an awakening, a reintroduction to what Blackness looks and feels like in a real-world experience of a Black society. Ghana’s beauty is in its balance. It’s in the warmth of its people, the confidence of its culture, the pulse of its cities, and the stillness that calls you inward.
At Black Realities Adventures, we curate experiences that bring you face to face with that feeling. We work hard to avoid surface level travel. We pursue depth. Each itinerary is designed to honor the culture, the traditions, the legacy, and the people of Ghana while helping you explore your own Black reality in a global context.

No. Because our travelers are venturing from all over the world to begin their journeys, it is not possible to include airfare in our prices. For confirmed travelers, we will provide you routing tips and recommendations and if/when possible, we’ll share information about flight deals. Although our prices do not include your flight to and from Accra, it does include all ground transportation while in Ghana, 5-star hotel accommodations, breakfast everday + most meals, tour guides and all entry fees for all scheduled activities listed on the itinerary.
For reference, you will be arriving and departing from Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.
Your seat on this journey is $7,000 for single occupancy or $6,000 per person for double occupancy. This includes premiere accommodations, most meals, in-country transportation, expert local guides, entry fees for all of the immersive experiences we’ve curated, and a personal concierge that will be available to asssit you with all of your pre-flight arrangements once you secure your spot with a deposit.
As a courtesy, we offer a flexible payment plan. A $1,000 deposit secures your spot, and the balance will be spread out over time.
We understand the importance of this question and we'd like to help!
For many, this journey, in addition to being extraordinary and personally valuable, also serves as a unique and substantial professional and leadership development opportunity. Many travelers have successfully used equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) grants and workplace professional development funds to cover part or all of their trip costs.
These experiences are led by Black Realities Founder, Sharifa Johka, a respected expert in leadership development, organizational culture, and antiracist policy development, making this not your ordinary leisure trip, but a transformative learning experience that directly supports professional goals around antiracist training, cultural competency, leading with emotional intelligence, anti-bias learning, narrative change, social justice engagement, micro economies, workforce development, and global leadership to name a few!
If you’re seeking employer support, we can provide a formal invoice or letter outlining how this experience supports your development objectives. Just let us know and we’ll help you present your request clearly and confidently.
Yes. If you’re a U.S. citizen (or from most other countries), you’ll need a visa to enter Ghana and the visa must be obtained before you travel. We’ll provide detailed instructions once your trip is confirmed, including where to apply, what documents you’ll need, and how long the process usually takes.
It’s important to start early as visa processing times can vary, and you’ll need a valid passport with at least six months left before expiration. We’re here to guide you through it, but securing your visa is your responsibility. Once you’ve got that Ghana visa sticker in your passport, you’re one step closer to boarding the plane!
Yes. Every traveler must have valid travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, evacuation, and trip cancellation. Here's why?
Yes. For starters, yellow fever vaccination is required to travel to Ghana. Although not required, we also strongly suggest that you get vaccinated for malaria. For the most accurate and up-to-date health information we suggest visiting the U.S. Department of State website (travel.state.gov), however, keep in mind that a website is no substitute for a consultation with a qualified medical professional.
No. All deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. This is because travel arrangements require we have contractual agreements with hotels, partners, and other vendors that will not allow us to obtain any refunds. These contractual agreements, keep our package prices competitive and provides us with the opportunity to offer you a monthly payment plan for your experience. In the event you need to cancel and desire a refund, your required travel insurance should assist with reimbursing your costs.
Of course! While we’ve put together a wonderful travel experience, we understand that you may have your own must-sees and must-dos and have built in time in the itinerary to make sure you have the freedom to do just that.
No. That said, we'll always communicate your dietary preferences and needs to our partners; however, please know that in Ghana, food is often prepared communally, meaning one pot, shared kitchens, and generous hearts, but not the kind of separate preparation or ingredient control you might expect elsewhere. A vegetarian meal, for example, may simply mean your serving comes without the meat that is in the pot, not that it was cooked separately.
The good news? Ghanaian food is full of flavor, color, and warmth and with a bit of mindfulness and curiosity, you’ll still get to enjoy the best of it. So, you’ll have to eat smart and remember, you’re the final line of defense between you and the food provided. With a little awareness and a lot of curiosity, you’ll likely navigate it beautifully. Ultimately, it’s all part of the journey…and every traveler has got a story about “that one meal.”
We wholeheartedly welcome and invite LGBTQ+ travelers to experience Ghana with us. At the same time, it’s important to acknowledge the realities on the ground. Public expressions of same-gender affection or identity can carry real risks, and Ghana’s cultural and legal environment is very restrictive.
For context, in early 2024, Ghana’s Parliament passed a highly contested and controversial bill that criminalizes same-sex relationships and activities, and while it has not yet become law, due to the coalition of local and international activists and ongoing legal appeals, it has heightened anti-queer cultural sentiment. This means traveling openly, particularly in public spaces, requires real and intentional discretion.
That said, many LGBTQ+ travelers move through Ghana with joy, curiosity, and safety by staying informed, respecting cultural norms in public, and leaning on trusted guidance. At Black Realities Adventures, we are committed to creating a supportive environment where you can fully participate in experiences, connect with others, and embrace your identity in community.
In truth, traveling as a queer person in Ghana comes with unique challenges, but it is also an opportunity to witness, engage, and celebrate a vibrant culture, to connect with history, and to create meaningful experiences that are deeply personal.
While we cannot guarantee safety in public spaces or immunity from legal risk, we can equip you with knowledge, guidance, and our private group's support so that our collective journey together can be as joyful, safe, and transformative as possible.
Come for the culture, the history, and the community. Stay for the moments that remind you of the beauty, resilience, and creativity of queer life everywhere and the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a thoughtful, supported group.
It is possible. While we have no desire or intention to alter the itinerary, everything on the trip is subject to change due to weather, force majeure, and unforeseen local factors. We may also make changes, within reason, to the itinerary if we’re able to find a superior experience for the group.
No. Well, technically yes, but you will forfeit your deposit, and all payments previously made toward the trip. We get it, worst case scenarios happen, and things pop up unexpectedly. This is why we require all travelers to purchase travel insurance and strongly suggest you purchase a “cancel for any reason” policy that covers these sorts of things so your investment is secure!
Please see more about travel insurance HERE.
That depends. We want you to be able to fully experience the journey we’ve planned for you, but we understand that life may not allow you to be there for the entire experience. As such, we'll review your request for a late arrival to determine if we can maintain our goal of an unforgettable travel experience. Contact us at info@blkrealities.com before booking your trip to inquire further. Please note: price adjustments will not be made for late arrival or early departure.
We can! Shoot us an email at info@blkrealities.com or schedule a 30min information session HERE and we’ll answer any questions you may have about Black Realities Adventures.
